Odd Response to Review from One of the Lowest Rated Roofing Contractors on Yelp. - THIS IS NOT OUR COMPANY.
This is my observation of a roofing review by a customer
then the response by the contractor. What do YOU think?

From Homeowner:
"So far not so good. Called and ordered an inspection.
Decided to get the valley's cleaned and have new rubber pieces installed in
places recommended. Scheduled repairs for 6/15. _____ _____ called to move the
appt up. Roofer shows up at 6:45AM the next day to start work (Crazy early). He
leaves after 45 minutes and says he will be back. I never saw him come back. I
call the office asking for pictures of the completed work. The office said call
the inspector. I call the inspector and he says call the office. I call the
office they say call the inspector. ____ the inspector! The office says the work is not complete yet.
Finally after I get mad which I didn't want to do the office called the actual
roofer who said he completed the work. It doesn't look like the work is
complete to me but without photo evidence who knows.
Skip calling _______ _______unless you want to pay a lot and
have a huge headache. Many other good roof companies in town."
After 3 months the roofing contractor writes:

From Contractor:
"The difference between ______ _____and other roofing
companies is that _______ _____NEVER uses unskilled, inexperienced, day
laborers because the experienced, skilled laborers usually obtain their own
California Roofing Contractor licenses.
_________ _____ONLY uses skilled, experienced, California licensed
contractors because they get paid more for their professionalism and because
they are held accountable" (that's what YOUR lic. is supposed to be for!)
"if they have any problems due to job completion or workmanship issues.
Because our repairmen are so highly skilled, many of them are very efficient
and very good at what they do. We
apologize for the early start in the morning, but when it gets 100 degrees
outside during the day, the temperature can be over 120 degrees on the
roof, Our repairmen are supposed to
contact the Homeowner if they intend to start early. We apologize of our repairman did not
communicate with you to get your permission to show up so early in this
case. Likewise, if you have any reason
to believe that the work was not completed for any reason, then please provide
us a written notice explaining the discrepancy that you or someone else has
noted on the roof in relation to the Contract that was signed by you, and we
will be more than welcome to check your concern out for you. We are also sorry about the confusion that
was made between our office and inspectors.
We will use this as a training tool for our office and field staff in
the future. BTW,you don't pay a lot at
_______ ________because we do provide a
'low-price guarantee' that is explained in all of our Estimates that are
provided before any Contract is signed."
My Thoughts on This:
If you're so much better than everyone else then why 128 one
star reviews and only 88 five star? That's definitely one of the worst roofer
ratings on Yelp, over twice as many bad & not just negative but 1 star. May
want to re think this.
I mean sure, using only lic. contractors gets you out of
paying workers comp but CLEARLY looking at these reviews (188 one star & 88
5 star over twice as many negative) it has nothing to do with job quality
because it also means that every single job is subbed out so you really have no
idea who all is out there or who they may have with them. That would explain
such terrible reviews.
While it is not unusual for a roofing contractor to hire sub
contractors, normally it is for things like gutters, roof disposal or removal
etc. but not ALL of the roofing work & it doesn't take a genius to see that
this adds another layer of red tape to accountability let alone uniform work
methods.
Another problem is that according to the contractors
statement, his is the only roofing company in California using skilled workers,
but then the worst review ratio of anyone. My experience over the last 40 years
has been that usually the roofing contractors that have to look to other
roofing contractors for work are mostly the worst ones AND the ones that actually hire "day laborers". Still trying to sell your next level skill? We can see the reviews!
In my opinion It
doesn't make sense to try to deflect it onto all of the normal contractors who
actually perform their own work using long term, highly skilled workers doing
uniform work, as if they are the
inferior ones.
